q) The Names behind the word GOD

The flow of my stream of consciousness continued…

In a previous lesson, I introduced the meaning of the word God (YOD) and in this lesson, will go into greater depths regarding the various names assigned to GOD, and what they mean in relation to The Father in Heaven.  In the foundational teachings, I shared how the name that encompasses the Nature of The Father in Heaven is ALEPH, and as such, GREATER than the name commonly used in the World, God.  Again, the word God is the reflection of the Greek’s and their understanding when they translated the Bible.  Because the World was created with one Yod (Image), that one Yod dominates the understanding of the World; therefore, the word used to identify Supreme Deity in the Bible is generically labeled as God (pronounced Yod in Greek).  However, this lesson begins to break down the actual Hebrew words used to identify The Father at that time, and shines light on the various attributes that were acknowledged regarding The Being of The Father.  This lesson does not cover the entire understanding gained, but does provide an introduction.  Further down The River will be additional lessons regarding The Name of The Father.

For the moment, the word in the Bible that reflects a non-Kingdom Seekers understanding of the name used to identify the highest level of The Father known outside of The Kingdom is Yahweh

But first, WHY do people believe in and call on God?  For those who are in the World, the answer is simple: Relief from pressure and stress.  In the World, pressure on a person comes in many forms; however, most people feel pressure due primarily to their workload and living up to the expectations of others.   This external pressure results in the person (vessel) feeling stressed; thereby, causing a split between their focus and the things that distract them.  People become distracted by other people, other things (games, TV, etc.,), as well as self-distraction.  Self-distraction is negatively focusing on what it is that you wish you had, but don’t.

Pressure in the World is generally measured by Success or Failure.  Success is allowing Internal focus on the external primary objective to outweigh external distractions; thereby, minimizing the impact of the external pressure.  Failure is the result of external distractions outweighing the focus needed to achieve the primary external objective; thereby, causing the external pressure to factor greater.

Seeking First The Kingdom of God results in an environmental change.  The external environment goes from one of Pressure, to one of Grace, while the internal environment goes from focusing on Stress, to focusing on Peace.  Internal Peace is achieved, and increased, due to focusing on Kingdom Seeking.  Grace was set forth before our birth and is activated once Kingdom Seeking begins and the journey begins down the Path of Righteousness.

Once the journey down the Path of Righteousness begins, the Kingdom Seeker begins to call upon the name of God in an effort to pray for guidance and blessings.  In doing so, I came across very interesting information regarding the names used to reference ‘God’ in the Bible.  By using bible.cc and looking at the various translation in Hebrew-to-English, I began to get a better understanding.

  • In Genesis 1:1, the name used for God is Elohim
  • Genesis 2:4, the name for LORD God is Yahweh Elohim
  • Genesis 6:2, the name used for Son of God is Ha Elohim
  • Genesis 6:3, the name used for LORD is Yahweh
  • Genesis 8:1, the name used for God is Elohim
  • Genesis 11:5, the name used for LORD is Yahweh
  • Genesis 12:1, the name used for LORD is Yahweh
  • Genesis 14:18, the name used for God Most High is El Elyon
  • Genesis 15:1, the name used for LORD is Yahweh
  • Genesis 15:2, the name used for Lord is Adonai; the name for God is Jehovah

Each of the aforementioned names ascribe a different aspect of The Father in Heaven; however, none of them accurately ascribe the totality of who The Father is.  Nonetheless, understanding the meaning behind each name aids in beginning to understand why each name is used.

  • YAHWEH: in the Bible, *Yahweh is referred to as The Unknowable, Incomprehendable Creator.  Lord over all; the apparent source of Image and Likeness
  • ELOHIM: EL – strength, might, power, sovereign; of HIM – The Father in Heaven (the reflection of The Father on Earth)
    • The ONE who is Many; the complete Body of Christ, individualized physical aspects of Yahweh.  The Unknowable/Incomprehendable made knowable and comprehendable.  Functions together with Jehovah and Adonai to fulfill the Will of Yahweh.  Possessor initially of Image (Yod)
    • EL ELYON: El-ion (the energy of El in motion) Higher than El, El Elyon is the result of reaching *Yahweh’s Image and Likeness (Yod Yod) as the result of being led in the Kingdom Seeking process and achieving Man/Adam status.
    • EL SHADDAI: All Sufficient One.  Shad means breast/bosom.  Comes from the root verb shadad, that means to overpower/to destroy.  Dai means ‘enough’.  Therefore, Shaddai means enough to overpower (the World) by resting in The Father’s bosom.  As a result, El Shaddai is ALMIGHTY.  Connected with El Elyon, El Shaddai is The One who possesses complete sufficiency to bring into fruitfulness.

To see how these terms are used and interrelated, let’s look at a few Bible verses for reference.

LORD Most High [Elyon]

  • Genesis 14:18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High[El Elyon], and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God.
    • Hebrews 5:6 And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever,  in the order of Melchizedek.”
    • Psalms 7:17 I will praise the Lord [Yahweh] according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high[El Elyon].
    • Psalms 47:2 For the Lord most high [Yahweh Elyon] is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
    • Psalms 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high [Elyon] over all the earth.
    • Psalms 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High [Elyon] shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty [El Shaddai].

GOD Most High [Elohim]

  • Psalms 57:2 I will cry unto God [Elohim] most high [Elyon]; unto God [El] that performeth all things for me.
  • Psalms 78:35 And they remembered that God [Elohim] was their rock, and the high God [El Elyon] their redeemer.
  • Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods [Elohim]; and all of you are children of the most High [El Elyon].

Most High, Almighty [El Shaddai]

  • Psalms 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High [Elyon] shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty [El Shaddai].
  • Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord [Yahweh] appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God [El Shaddai]; walk before me, and be thou perfect (blameless).
    • Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame (blameless) before him in love:
    • Revelation 14:5 And in their mouth (Alamoth/virgins) was found no guile: for they are without fault (blameless) before the throne of God.
    • Psalms 91:11- 12 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
      • Guard: to protect
        • -en – a suffix meaning cause to become
  • Guarden/garden: to cause to become protected

Psalms 91:1 (Kingdom Understanding; Matthew 6:33)

  • He: One who Seeks First The Kingdom of God
  • Dwells in the Shelter of El Elyon: receives Image AND Likeness, gains Dominion on Earth as Man
  • Will rest in the Shadow of El Shaddai: all other things shall be added

To deem is to come to think about, have an opinion, to judge

  • Redeem: to deem again
    • To be redeemed is to have The Father focus in my/your direction again.  Prior to Kingdom Seeking, we did not know of The Father properly because our focus was on ourselves and not on Him. Aligning our focus towards The Father brings us in alignment with His focus…which is to lead us to The Kingdom of Heaven.
    • Psalms 91:14  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
      • Because: a reason why; re – a prefix meaning again; as – to the same degree, extent as; on – so as to be or remain supported
        • Reason: same degree, extent as, so as to be/remain supported [by The Father]
  • Set his love upon me: from the self, to The Father

In the World, The Father is NOT properly acknowledged (although, He is initially known as Yahweh, but He is even GREATER than that); therefore, there is belief in and/or worship of either GOD, self, or others.

When I began my journey in Kingdom Seeking, The Father revealed to me that I did not know him, to which I felt shocked and surprised.  With my time spent in the church as a child, and then all the time I spent as a grown-up studying the Bible and the teachings of Myles Munroe, I felt that I had a pretty good handle at knowing who God was.  However, I was led to this Bible verse.

  • Isaiah 45:4 I do these things for my servants, the people of Jacob, and for my chosen people, the Israelites. Cyrus, I call you by name, and I give you a title of honor even though you don’t know me.

As I began my Kingdom Seeking journey, it became clear that Isaiah 45 was/is my ‘charge’…just like when Jesus stood up in the synagogue and read from Isaiah 61 to notify the spiritual leaders of his ‘charge’.  However, Isaiah 45:4 stuck with me because The Father was telling me that He knew that I didn’t know Him.  As I continued my journey, I was led away from knowing The Father as God, to knowing him as Yahweh (and the various aspects connected), to knowing Him as I know Him now (Aleph).

Because of my continual growth along The Path of Righteousness, receiving Psalms 91:14 states that the process of finally ‘knowing my [His] name’ is evidence of movement in The Kingdom direction.

Humans complain, Man boasts about his weaknesses, as it makes The Body of Christ stronger.  Nonetheless, the Angels are commanded to lift up Man in their hands (Psalms 91:12)

  • Heaven: Heave – to lift up; en – to cause to become

Humans have an ANIMAL spirit (reflected as a cat); Man has The Spirit of The Father (reflected as Fire)
